VELMA “RUTH” CALVERT
Velma Ruth Calvert was born to Franklin Hale and Ethel Dearmore Simmons on March 20, 1932, in Tribbey, OK. She departed this life at the Noble Health Care Center on September 4th, at the age of 87 years. Ruth graduated from Noble High School. In 1949, she and Roy Lee Calvert were united in marriage at McKiddyville, OK.
Ruth attended nursing school at St Anthony’s School of Nursing, graduating as an LPN in 1962. She was employed with Morningside and Holiday Heights Nursing Homes in Norman for over 50 years. She and Roy had a strong faith in the Lord. They loved Southern gospel music. She enjoyed making her daughters clothes, making Barbie clothes, reading, crocheting, and watching game shows. She was an avid Thunder and OU basketball fan. She loved working in her yard, and continued to do so, even until the age of 86.
Those who preceded her in death include her parents, her husband Roy, and 2 brothers, Bob and Bill Simmons. Ruth is survived by her son Kevin Calvert and wife Trisha, daughters, Lynn Jordan and husband Keith, Gail Hilty and husband Jim, and Dayla Hayes and husband Gary. She also has 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the Noble Public Schools Foundation for Academic Excellence.
